DIY - Fitting electric folding mirrors to your gen3 Coupe

How to fit electric folding mirrors to your gen3 model Coupe, the parts are available from places such as kspec.com and sharkracing.com

Many thanks to Lee Bromby

First you'll need 2 relays, 2 auto folding mirrors and a control panel with the mirror switch on. First remove the small cover below the mirror which just clips off.

Then remove the 3 bolts holding the mirror on.

Then pull the mirror off the car, it may seem like its stuck on something but it's just a small piece of plastic holding it on. Once the mirror is removed simply disconnect the wiring plug. Once the mirror is fully removed fit your new mirror in the reverse order. Repeat this on both mirrors.

Next is fitting the relays.

To fit these you'll have to disconnect your battery then remove the full panel underneath the steering wheel so you can get at the bcm then unplug everything that's going into your bcm so you can remove it from the car. They are 2 bolts at the bottom of it and 1 screw at the top to remove it. This is the view from the back of the bcm:

Now if you try and plug the relays in you'll notice that they very loose this is because there's no connectors behind them. To fit the connectors you'll have to remove all the relays from the bcm and the lid (opposite side of the fuses). It should look like this:

As you can see they are 5 dots of solder where the connectors should be. So here you'll need to solder your own on like so:

When done it will look something like this.

Then carefully replace the lid on the bcm and plug the relays back in including the 2 new relays for your mirrors.

Next fitting the mirror button.

If you have a control panel with the button all ready fitted then it's a simple swap. But the control panel I got was for a left hand drive which meant I had move the button over. To do this take out the control panel and open up the back of it

And then remove the circuit board. On the circuit board you'll see 6 dots of solder where the button should go (picture is off left hand drive control panel)

Next take apart the left hand drive control panel and melt down the solder holding the button in place and place it on your circuit board by melting down the 6 dots of solder. Some modifications will be needed to the false button to make it work has the button from the left hand drive on won't fit. Then reassemble the unit and fit it back into your car.

Now your new Mirrors should be folding in and out by a touch of a button.

PS. Don't forget to swap the glass over to your new mirrors has they magnify different from left hand drive to right hand drive.

Also once I did this mod I found it difficult to set my mirrors (glass) to how they where. I think this is down to both mirrors been for a left hand drive and most be shaped differently.

Addendum from biscut I got my folding mirrors done by the guys at Brackmills body repair. They figured out that the relays needed are the same as the windscreen wiper ones and are 12V 20Amp ones
